Ghanaian music duo Keche, made up of Andrew and Joshua, joined the Culture Squad on Culture Daily for an honest conversation about their journey, the state of the industry and why fans have waited so long for a second album.
During the interview, the duo revealed that the Ghanaian music landscape hasn’t always been favorable for album-driven artistry.
“We realised that in Ghana we don’t take albums serious,” Keche Joshua shared, explaining that the demand and support structure for albums is still weak compared to singles.
Keche Andrew also admitted that internal dynamics have contributed to the delay.
“Joshua is one of the reasons we’ve not released our second album,” he said jokingly, highlighting how the duo strives for alignment and perfection before dropping a full project.
Another major factor is cost.
“Releasing a song costs about 20,000 cedis,” Joshua disclosed, emphasizing how expensive it is to produce, promote and distribute quality music.
Joshua further revealed that creative chemistry is essential for them.
“I released a song but didn’t like it because I wasn’t hearing Andrew on it,” he said, noting that the Keche sound is complete only when both voices are present.
The duo also spoke about their long-standing support for Sarkodie, pointing out their consistent involvement with his annual concerts.
“We’ve supported Sarkodie the most in this industry,we’ve performed at almost all the Rapperholic concerts,” they stated proudly.
Despite the challenges, Keche assured fans that they remain committed to creating music that reflects their bond, growth and authenticity. The duo hinted that when the time is right and the conditions make sense, the long-awaited album will finally arrive.
