President John Dramani Mahama, has announced significant progress in Ghana’s economic recovery, outlining what he described as a decisive turnaround under his administration during the 2026 State of the Nation Address delivered in Parliament.
Addressing lawmakers, President Mahama highlighted notable improvements in macroeconomic stability, real GDP growth and fiscal performance, citing official figures that indicate a marked rebound compared to previous years. He stated that his government inherited an economy weighed down by high public debt, rising inflation and persistent currency pressures, but has since implemented prudent fiscal measures and structural reforms aimed at restoring stability and rebuilding confidence.
According to the President, key economic fundamentals, including sustained GDP expansion, reduced fiscal deficits and improved business sentiment demonstrate that the country is on a firmer and more resilient footing. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to responsible economic management, declaring that “Ghana is working again.”
A major highlight of the address was the reported creation of more than one million jobs in 2025, alongside the reduction of multidimensional poverty, with approximately 950,000 individuals said to have moved out of poverty during the period under review. President Mahama described these developments as clear evidence that the economic recovery is translating into tangible improvements in the lives of Ghanaian citizens.
He assured Parliament that the government remains focused on consolidating gains, sustaining growth momentum and ensuring that economic progress remains inclusive and broadly shared across the country.
