Ghanaian content creator and social commentator SDK has sparked conversations online after sharing his thoughts on how short-form video content has gradually replaced traditional event photography culture.
In a post shared on X, SDK lamented how platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels have changed the way people consume moments from events, parties, fashion shows and entertainment gatherings. According to him, there was once a time when audiences eagerly anticipated photo galleries from major events, scrolling through hundreds of carefully captured images that highlighted fashion, glamour, emotions and unforgettable moments.

SDK specifically referenced popular Ghanaian entertainment photography platforms and personalities such as Ameyaw Debrah and GhanaTalk, noting that event photography once felt special and intentional.
He explained that today’s digital culture has shifted heavily toward motion-based content, where short clips and quick edits dominate online engagement. Instead of detailed photo albums documenting events, most online coverage now comes in the form of TikTok videos, Instagram Reels, and reposted snippets across social media platforms.
According to SDK, this transition has made it increasingly difficult to find proper event photographs online, marking what he describes as a cultural shift from capturing moments to capturing motions
His comments have resonated with many social media users, especially creatives and longtime entertainment consumers who remember when event photography played a central role in documenting Ghana’s nightlife, celebrity culture, concerts and red carpet experiences.
The discussion also highlights the evolving nature of content consumption in the digital era, where audiences now prioritize fast, engaging video content over still imagery. While short-form video has created new opportunities for creators and brands to reach wider audiences instantly, some believe it has also reduced the appreciation for detailed storytelling through photography.
SDK’s post has since generated debate online, with some agreeing that photography culture has faded, while others argue that video content simply reflects changing audience preferences and technological evolution.
