Ghanaian music duo, DopeNation's viral dance challenge Kakalika
is taking over European football celebrations, with some of the biggest stars
in the game now joining the viral wave.
The latest footballers to jump on the trend are Lamine Yamal
and Alejandro Balde, who showcased the dance during post-match celebrations
after Barcelona beat archrivals Real Madrid in Sunday's El Clásico.
The young Barcelona stars went viral after performing the
Ghanaian Kakalika dance following FC Barcelona’s La Liga title victory.
Barcelona secured the 2025/26 Spanish league title with a 2-0 win over Real
Madrid at Camp Nou with three games to spare.
The celebration quickly caught attention online, especially
among African football fans who recognised the dance instantly.
Days earlier, PSG stars Hakimi and Doué joined the trend
after Paris Saint-Germain booked a place in the UEFA Champions League final. In
a widely shared dressing room video, the two players were seen dancing to the
viral Ghanaian track as teammates celebrated around them.
PSG reached the final after eliminating Bayern Munich in the semi-finals,
becoming the first French club to qualify for three UEFA Champions League
finals.
The growing popularity of the Kakalika dance now affirms the increasing
influence of Ghanaian music and street culture on global sports entertainment.
African sounds and dances have become a regular part of football celebrations
in Europe, but the rapid rise of the Kakalika trend shows how Ghanaian
pop culture is increasingly reaching mainstream international audiences.
What started as a local dance trend has now crossed borders, finding space in some of football’s biggest moments. The song behind the challenge has become a social media sensation in recent months, especially on TikTok, where users continue to recreate the energetic dance moves.
With Barcelona stars and PSG players now embracing the dance
on some of football’s biggest stages, the challenge appears to be moving beyond
social media into mainstream football culture.
