Smart Innovations Ghana says it is working with the Minerals Commission on a technology-driven monitoring system aimed at supporting the fight against illegal mining in Ghana.
The company’s Chief Technology Officer, Selasie Vondee, disclosed this on the Big Convo segment of The Culture Daily Morning Show on 3Music TV and Pluzz 89.9 FM.
Vondee said the company has established a control room at the Minerals Commission to monitor mining activities across the country.
“We set up a control room at MinCom, which we are using to monitor all large-scale, small-scale mining across the country and also earth-moving and mining equipment used in mining,” he said.
He said the project forms part of four technology solutions currently being developed by Smart Innovations Ghana, with most of them focused on the mining sector.
Vondee also revealed that the company is developing another platform that will enable businesses to monitor their social media accounts and broader online presence. He said the product is expected to be ready in the third quarter of the year.
Illegal mining, widely known as galamsey, remains one of Ghana’s biggest environmental challenges, with authorities introducing a number of technological and regulatory measures to improve monitoring and enforcement.
Vondee said Smart Innovations hopes its systems will contribute to those efforts.
