There Is An Improvement In School Feeding Programme - Education Minister

The Minister of Education, Haruna Idrisu has hailed the current school feeding programme, noting that there has been a significant improvement compared to the previous years. 

He made the statement while addressing students and teachers at Aburi Girls SHS on June, 10, 2026.

“I’m also happy to note that at least for the first time in many years we are not suffering from food shortages in school,” he remarked.

He explained that support for the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) feeding programme has increased as a result of the government's decision to decapitate the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).

“Thanks to the de-capping of the GETFund, the GETFund through Ghana Commodity Exchange and the Buffer Stock are adequately making sufficient provisions for food,” Mr Iddrisu explained.

He continued by saying that GETFund finance was now successfully managing the food portion of the Free SHS concept.

“So at least the feeding component of the free senior high school is now being managed well with GETFund funding,” he stated.

The Minister revealed that this year, the government had set up a sizeable sum for feeding students around the country.

“This year alone, we allocated four billion Ghana cedis to take care of your feeding across the country,” he announced.
