It has been 12 years since the incarceration of Jamaican dancehall champion and icon, Vybz Kartel, who was arrested and charged for the murder of associate Clive “Lizard” Williams and later sentenced to life imprisonment.
However, during his term in prison, he has remained consistent in the dancehall scene releasing a plethora of songs all the while making attempts to appeal his conviction.
He has recently made yet another appeal to the Highest Court in Jamaica, the United Kingdom’s Privy Council in hopes to present new evidence relating to initial evidence discovered on his phone at the start of the trial. Lawyers of the artiste have suggested that during its time in custody, there have been instances of tampering with the phone that was used to implicate and later convict him.
Although numerous attempts made by the artiste and his attorneys to appeal his case have failed, he still maintains hope that his conviction can be overturned. He continues to fight as his original appeal is still pending, making it possible for him to make an argument before Jamaica’s final court.
His attorney, Isat Buchanan, has
revealed to the public that the matter is still under a judge and updates surrounding
the artiste will be released as and when available.
