In our maiden broadcast of Culture
Daily hosted by
Jay Foley, C-Real and Lerny Lomotey,
Ghanaian entertainment entrepreneur and manager
of Camidoh, Mr. George Britton
joined us for insightful
conversations.
When asked
how he hand-picked
Camidoh, Mr. George
Britton said, “In 2018 he reached out to us through
one of my guys I use to work with Babiloh who was
his mate in UPSA. But
I think I
was busy. I
was working with Keche so
I wasn’t paying attention
to anything else. He
came back to
me I think
the first visit
was May 2019
and then again
October and he kept calling and I realized okay I like this
guy’s energy he carries
the same energy
as I carry.”
Mr. George
Britton officially begun managing
Camidoh in 2020
and they released
a six–track EP titled Contingency
Plan(C.P.) which was later
nominated for the
Album of the Year at
Entertainment Achievement Awards organized by Citi
TV.
@camidoh
Speaking on
how Camidoh’s Contigency Plan(C.P) came to
live, Mr. George Britton said, “Before Camidoh’s trip to
London, the plan
was to release
an album so
we can have
12 songs and pick
it one after
the other throughout
the year, but because that couldn’t happen we decided
to use the
EP.”
Marketing and intentional
brand positioning was what gave
Camidoh the necessary exposure he needed. In breaking down the
strategy, Mr. George Britton
said “I’ll reach out to you Jay
and say put
together your friends probably 10 of you guys
and I’ll bring Camidoh over to
perform. I realized
that he has something that people
will love him when
you get to know him.
We did that
a couple of
times. The online
activation was mad!
It was beautiful
and people started following him.”
Adding to
the factors that helped
solidify Camidoh’s place was
his performance at 2020
3Music Awards which received a lot of praise
online.
Camidoh released
his single Sugarcane
in December 2021. The
song began to
gain popularity when Ghanaian TikTok creators
used it in their videos as
promotion. The song
ranked fifth among the
top 200 most
searched Afropop songs on
Shazam. On 8th
April 2022, he released
Sugarcane Remix featuring
King
Promise(Ghana), Mayorkun(Nigeria)
and Darkoo(United Kingdom). The collaboration
peaked at number
one on Nigeria's
Top 100 Music
Chart on Apple
Music in the first week of
May, barely a month
after its release.
