Atlanta, native 6lack has
on Wednesday, 1st March shared news regarding his forthcoming
third studio album via a press release. The new album according to the release
is set to drop on Friday, 24th March 2023 via Atlanta based record
label Love Renaissance (LVRN) and Interscope Records.
In the video for his first single
off the album titled Since I Have a Lover, 6lack is seen falling from the
sky then crashing into a home which happens to be engulfed in flames while proceeding to sing the lyrics to the
new record from inside of it finding his way out and levitating onto a street
where everyone seems to be going about their day. The video takes a different
turn towards the end when the people on the street join 6lack high up in the
sky.
In a statement by the singer, he
describes the song as “a note to self that I’m no longer who I was or where I
was, and that there’s a bigger purpose starting to reveal itself in the things
I create.” According to him, the track is reminiscent of the highs of having a
healthy love, compressed into a song format.
With short verses and a chorus
embodying more of a feeling than lyrics, described by the singer as an exhale,
a relief, signifying trust, happiness and being surreal, the single is a precedent
to an album that is set to house conversations about mental health, healing, personal
growth, love and his personal journey of finding his way – both good and bad.
This album comes as a follow up
to his five-year-old sophomore album East Atlanta Love Letter.
