The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Hon. Naser Toure Mahama, has been laid to rest following his passing on Sunday, January 4, 2026. He was 60 years old.
Naser Toure Mahama, a four-term lawmaker and member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), passed away at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness, news of which sent shockwaves through Parliament and his Ayawaso East constituency.
In accordance with Islamic tradition, funeral rites were held swiftly. On Monday, January 5, 2026, a Janazah prayer was conducted at the Ayawaso East Constituency Office at Kanda, drawing a large gathering of family members, parliamentary colleagues, traditional leaders, and residents from Nima, Kanda, Mamobi and surrounding communities.
The prayer service was led by the National Chief Imam, Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, underscoring the late MP’s strong religious and community ties. Following the prayers, his body was conveyed to the Madina Cemetery, where he was buried according to Islamic rites.
Scenes at the burial were marked by visible emotion as constituents mourned a leader widely described as accessible, committed and deeply rooted in grassroots politics. Tributes poured in from Members of Parliament across party lines, party executives and community leaders, many of whom praised his humility, consistency and dedication to public service.
First elected to Parliament in 2013, Hon. Naser Toure Mahama served Ayawaso East for over a decade, securing four consecutive electoral victories, including the 2024 general election. Throughout his tenure, he was actively involved in parliamentary committee work and was known for advocating youth empowerment, urban development and social welfare within his constituency.
His passing creates a significant vacancy in Parliament. It leaves a void in the Ayawaso East constituency, where he was fondly known for his close connection to residents and unwavering service.
Hon. Naser Toure Mahama is remembered not only as a legislator but as a devoted public servant whose legacy will remain etched in the political and social fabric of Ayawaso East.
