Ghanaian vocal powerhouse, Adina Thembi, is stepping into a new era and she’s doing it with intention, vulnerability and power.
During an appearance on the Big Convo to promote her single STAY FAR, the singer opened up about her upcoming album BECOMING, describing it as her most personal project yet.
Adina explained that while her previous album ARABA introduced fans to a more open side of her including touching tributes to her late father and her South African roots, BECOMING goes even deeper.
“This talks about my life as a young woman going through different stages, finding myself,” she shared. “I’m bearing it all. I’m ready to show people who I am, flaws and all.”
According to her, BECOMING reflects growth, self-discovery and evolution. It captures the journey of learning, healing and striving to become the best version of herself.
For Adina, healing is about doing the inner work and refusing to carry trauma into the next chapter of life.
“Trauma can ruin something beautiful that you’ve worked so hard for,” she said. “I don’t want to carry baggage from the past into my future.”
She emphasised that becoming a better artiste starts with becoming a better, whole person. By “watering herself,” as she described it, she believes she’ll be in the right shape to give her best to fans.
The lead single STAY FAR sets the tone for the album. It’s a feel-good, empowering anthem about protecting your energy and staying focused on your goals.
“If I’m on a journey to become something, I don’t need negative energy,” she explained.
The song has already received strong reactions, with fans praising it as a motivational track for ambitious listeners.
Adina revealed that comfort is key to her music-making process. Much of the album was recorded in a home studio environment where she often cooked for the team to keep the energy relaxed and positive.
“I like everyone to be fed and happy,” she laughed.
When it comes to songwriting, she describes herself as emotion-driven rather than overly technical.
“It’s about vibes, mood, passion,” she said. “I might say something simple, but if I deliver it with emotion, you’ll feel it.”
She also credited past collaborations, including work with Stonebwoy, for pushing her creatively and encouraging her to write more of her own verses.
Despite constant shifts in music trends, Adina says she refuses to abandon her identity.
“I’m very wary of changing who I am because of trends,” she noted. “What if the trend fades? You have to stick to what makes you unique.”
While she may experiment with production styles, she insists her core sound will always remain authentically Adina.
Though BECOMING is inspired by her experiences as a woman, she insists the project is for anyone who relates to it.
“It’s art,” she said. “If you connect with it, then it’s for you.”
The album is expected to drop in May, promising a fresh chapter from one of Ghana’s most consistent and soulful voices.
