On Tuesday, the WNBA superstar Brittney Griner was caught smiling in her Phoenix Mercury practice gear. The team shared a couple photos on their socials, stating with the caption "There she is."
Griner just signed a one-year contract extension with the organization. General manager Jim Pitman told the Associated Press, "We missed BG every day that she was gone and, while basketball was not our primary concern, her presence on the floor, in our locker room, around our organization, and within our community was greatly missed. We will continue to use our organization's resources to support her on and off the court, and we are thrilled for her that she will be able to return to basketball, which she loves so dearly. This is a special signing and today is a special day for all of us.
Griner had to take a 32% pay cut to rejoin her teammates, according to Insider. The eight-time All-Star was drafted first overall by Phoenix in 2013. Other Griner messages were also published on social media by the organization, including a motivational locker room letter and highlight clip. "No. 42 is power, prestige, and passion.”
Griner expressed gratitude to everyone who assisted in organizing her release, particularly Cherelle and the Biden-Harris Administration. She also stated that she will play for the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury this season.
