British-Ghanaian artist Claudia George is bringing her artistry full circle with the upcoming MERIDIAN LOVE AFFAIR Exhibition, opening at the Ghana National Museum on Thursday, November 13, 2025, and running through November 18.
Appearing on Unpacking, Claudia shared that the exhibition is both a homecoming and a thanksgiving. A way to honour her roots and inspire Ghana’s next generation of creatives. “This is my personal gratitude to the Most High,” she said. “But it’s also about creating opportunities for young artists who’ve never even stepped into a museum.”
Claudia’s love for art began in her childhood in Ghana, between the vibrant streets of Accra and the peaceful rhythm of her grandmother’s village. “Growing up here taught me simplicity, beauty and the balance of nature,” she reflected. “That connection never left me.”
Now based in London, her career has taken her across the world from exhibiting at the Commonwealth Club of Directors and the Yaa Asantewaa Arts Centre to representing cultural fusion through batik, tie-dye and surface design. She has collaborated on artistic projects in Trinidad and even received an invitation to a royal showcase for Queen Elizabeth II in 2007.
For Claudia, however, Ghana remains the heart of her creative expression. “Oliver Twist asked for more, and that’s exactly what I’m doing with art,” she joked on the show. “I’m asking for more space, more value and more recognition for our artists.”
MERIDIAN LOVE AFFAIR will feature a blend of silk paintings, batik pieces and experimental art, alongside works from emerging Ghanaian talents such as David from Stanford School and Norman Sly. The exhibition is free and open to the public, a deliberate choice to make art accessible to everyone.
“We want to bring art back to the people,” Claudia emphasised. “Some Ghanaians have never entered a museum and that has to change.”
Beyond the exhibition, Claudia used her platform to urge stakeholders to invest in Ghana’s creative industry, calling for training facilities, mentorship programs and financial support for artists. “Our young people are talented,” she said. “They just need structure. By 2027, Ghana should be exporting creative excellence, not just consuming it.”
As MERIDIAN LOVE AFFAIR opens its doors, it represents more than an art showcase. It’s a movement for cultural renewal, blending faith, artistry and identity into one vivid homecoming.
“We are all one people,” Claudia concluded. “Our art should tell that story boldly, beautifully and together.”
