Trigmatic Calls For Stronger Music Industry Structures In Ghana

Ghanaian musician and cultural advocate, Trigmatic, is calling for stronger professional structures within the country’s music industry.

During an interview on Culture Daily, the artiste discussed the challenges facing the industry and the need for more professionals working behind the scenes.

According to him, many people within the creative space focus primarily on fame and visibility rather than understanding the business side of entertainment.

“Everybody wants to be on stage,” he said. “But the real opportunities are often behind the scenes.”

Trigmatic explained that the lack of incubation platforms for young artistes has also contributed to gaps in the industry.

He referenced past platforms such as Bless The Mic, which helped emerging artistes develop their performance and business skills before reaching mainstream audiences.

To help address some of these challenges, the musician launched the Africa Music Business Dialogue, a platform designed to bring together music professionals from across the continent to discuss industry development.

The initiative, now entering its fifth edition, focuses on education, policy discussions and networking opportunities for creatives and industry practitioners.

Trigmatic revealed that the first four editions of the event were personally funded by him, reflecting his commitment to building stronger structures within the African music ecosystem.

The dialogue has hosted professionals from countries including South Africa, Uganda and the United Kingdom, covering topics ranging from entertainment law to digital distribution.

He believes Ghana has the potential to position itself as a gateway for African creative industries if the right systems are put in place.

“We have the institutions,” he said, referencing organisations such as the National Theatre of Ghana and the National Commission on Culture. “But we need to maximise them.”

For Trigmatic, building a sustainable music industry will require greater collaboration between artistes, professionals and policymakers across the continent.
