Bam Bam Defends YouTube Films, Rallies Support For African Filmmakers

Nigerian actress Bamike Olawunmi, known professionally as Bam Bam, has rejected the idea that actors and productions released on YouTube are less valuable than those on other streaming platforms.

Speaking on the Big Convo segment of the Cultre Daily morning show on 3Music TV and Pluzz 89.9 FM the actress said YouTube productions demand the same level of commitment and quality despite operating under tighter budgets and shorter production schedules.

She explained that while cinema productions can take two or three weeks to complete, YouTube films are often shot within four or five days.

According to Bam Bam, actors can film as many as 20 scenes a day while learning scripts on set and working long hours.

“It’s the same quality of work. The platform for streaming is different,” she said.

The actress urged audiences to stop looking down on YouTube productions and instead support the industry by watching films and allowing advertisements to play, explaining that advertising revenue helps producers recover production costs.

“Please celebrate them, watch their work and continue to support us,” she said.

Bam Bam added that her own career gained significant momentum through YouTube.

“I became a superstar overnight on YouTube,” she said.

She said she approaches every role with the same level of commitment regardless of where the project will be released, adding that she believes actors owe that professionalism to filmmakers, writers and audiences alike.
