Creative Arts Get Major Boost in Ghana’s Budget 2026

Ghana’s creative arts sector has received a significant vote of confidence in the 2026 national budget, with several initiatives aimed at reviving and expanding the country’s cultural and artistic landscape.

Key highlights include the planned rehabilitation of the National Theatre, a move that promises to restore one of Ghana’s most iconic cultural landmarks to its former glory. In addition, the government has earmarked land and design work for a second National Theatre in Kumasi, signalling a commitment to decentralising arts infrastructure and making cultural spaces more accessible beyond the capital.

The budget also provides GHC 20 million as seed funding for the Film Fund, with a special focus on reviving Kumawood the country’s indigenous film industry. This initiative is expected to stimulate local film production, create jobs and strengthen Ghana’s position in the African cinematic space.

Furthermore, a separate GHC 20 million has been allocated to the Creative Arts Fund, which will support various sectors including music, fashion and the visual arts. The fund is intended to nurture talent, promote innovation and foster sustainable growth within Ghana’s creative economy.

These measures reflect the government’s recognition of the creative arts as a key driver of economic growth, cultural preservation and international influence. For practitioners and enthusiasts alike, Budget 2026 marks a promising step towards a more vibrant and well-supported creative sector in Ghana.
