An 18-year-old final-year student at O'Reilly Senior High School was tragically stabbed to death by a fellow student after an exam. The incident, which occurred on the school grounds on Monday, September 2, 2024, has left the school community in shock. Edward Borketey Sackey, a final-year General Arts student, was attacked shortly after completing his exam.

According to a cousin who witnessed the incident, the stabbing took place during a confrontation with another student named Godwin. Edward was stabbed three times in the chest and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The cousin explained that the fight stemmed from an unspecified disagreement.

She recounted, "Edward finished his morning exam and came to tell me he was done. A few minutes later, we heard noise and learned that Edward and Godwin were fighting. I asked what it was about, and they said it was nothing serious."

"The argument was over trivial matters—what each had and whether they were telling the truth. I didn’t think it was serious. Later, Godwin came to me and threatened to harm my brother if I didn’t intervene. I told him it hadn’t come to that."

The cousin also noted that Edward sought help from teachers present on campus during the altercation, but they "didn’t act." She went to report the incident to her uncle, who had a shop outside the school, but he was unavailable. When she returned, she found that Edward had been stabbed by Godwin, a final-year Visual Arts student.

She added, "When the commotion started, my brother ran to the teachers who were sitting under a tree in the school compound. I tried to stop the fight, but they ignored me, so I went to my uncle’s shop to get help since the teachers weren’t taking action."

She claimed that even after the stabbing, the teachers did not seem concerned about Edward’s condition. It was only with the help of a passerby that she managed to get him to LEKMA hospital. "No teacher followed us. I went to the hospital alone, and my uncle arrived later. A passerby helped transport him, but it took about twenty to thirty minutes, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival."

The father of the deceased is now calling for justice and demanding answers from the school authorities. "The school has not provided any information, the police have not reached out, and the family of the student who killed my son has not contacted us. We want answers from the school and the family involved. We seek justice and need to know what happened," he said.

The school has yet to release a statement regarding the incident.
