Ghanaian-British Afrobeat trailblazer Fuse ODG has set the music world ablaze with the announcement of his first single, SUNDIATA, from his highly anticipated album SPIRIT OF NEW AFRICA , slated for release on May 20, 2025. The accompanying music video, featuring the iconic spoken-word poet Suli Breaks, will debut on Africa Day, May 25, 2025, promising a vibrant celebration of African identity that aligns perfectly with the day’s cultural significance.
Blending Afrobeat, dancehall, and hip-hop in Fuse’s signature style, SUNDIATA is poised to be a genre-defying anthem that captures the essence of African resilience and pride. Fuse has long been a pioneer in the Afrobeat scene, and this release marks another bold step in his mission to elevate African narratives through music, building on his legacy of hits like ANTENNA and AZONTO that have resonated globally.
Produced by the renowned Itzcj Madeit, SUNDIATA is described by Fuse as his “most fulfilling work to date” in a fiery Instagram post where he teased, “This chapter of the journey is about telling OUR stories and taking back control of OUR power.” The collaboration unites Suli Breaks’ powerful lyricism, known for its thought-provoking depth, with Itzcj Madeit’s cutting-edge production, creating a track that’s both anthemic and deeply personal.
Early snippets reveal a pulsating rhythm layered with traditional African instrumentation, paired with Suli Breaks’ evocative spoken-word verses that pay homage to the historical figure Sundiata Keita, the founder of the Mali Empire. This fusion of history and modernity underscores Fuse’s commitment to crafting music that educates while it entertains, a hallmark of his career since his breakout in the early 2010s.
Fuse ODG continues to champion African pride and unity with SUNDIATA and the broader SPIRIT OF NEW AFRICA album, aiming to redefine narratives and empower the diaspora at a time when African music is dominating global charts. Fans are buzzing with anticipation, expecting a visual and sonic spectacle that honors African heritage while pushing musical boundaries into uncharted territory.
The decision to release the video on Africa Day amplifies the single’s cultural weight, aligning with Fuse’s ongoing advocacy for African representation, as seen in his TINA (This Is New Africa) movement. As the May 20 album drop approaches, SUNDIATA sets the tone for what promises to be a transformative project, reinforcing Fuse ODG’s role as a visionary artiste who bridges continents and generations through the power of music.
