Owan & Larbi Open Up About Their Musical Journey And New Single
Owan & Larbi

Emerging Ghanaian music duo Owan & Larbi, have shared the story behind their friendship, musical partnership and growing ambitions in the music industry.

Speaking during an interview on the Morning Bite segment, the two artistes revealed that their journey began while studying at the University of Ghana.

According to the pair, they first connected after the COVID-19 pandemic when students returned to campus. Introduced through a mutual friend who was also an artiste, their friendship quickly evolved into a musical collaboration.

Initially experimenting with different sounds, the duo said their musical chemistry grew naturally despite having different influences. One of them was drawn to Grime and Hip-Hop, while the other leaned toward Afro-inspired sounds.

Their collaboration eventually evolved into a musical partnership that blends various genres.

“We realised the fusion worked,” they said, describing their sound as a mix of Afro-inspired music with elements of Hip-Hop and other global influences.

Although both artistes were still in school when they began recording music, the passion gradually developed into something more serious. Today, they say music has become their full-time focus.

Like many young creatives, convincing their families about their career choice was not easy. However, they say their parents are gradually becoming supportive as they continue to work on their craft.

“Our families were sceptical at first,” they admitted. “But now they see the work we’re putting in.”

Currently, the duo funds their music largely through personal resources and support from close friends, including a friend based in the United Kingdom who now helps manage aspects of their music career.

“Sometimes he sends money to support the work we’re doing,” they revealed. “He believed in our sound and decided to help us build.”

Since starting their musical journey, Owan & Larbi have released several projects, including their debut tape HERE’S TO NEW BEGINNING. The project featured six tracks and marked a defining moment for the duo as they introduced their sound to listeners.

Their latest release, WE UP, is the first single they are pushing this year. The song, originally recorded last year, now has a recently released music video.

Looking ahead, Owan & Larbi say their focus remains on developing their craft, telling authentic stories through their music and continuing to grow together both as friends and collaborators.

“We really love music,” they emphasised. “It’s not just about looking cool or the lifestyle. We have deep conversations about music and we want to build something real.”
