Technology experts have warned that artificial intelligence is likely to transform many entry-level jobs, making it increasingly important for graduates to develop AI skills alongside their professional knowledge.

Speaking on the Big Convo segment of the Culture Daily morning show on 3Music TV and Pluzz 89.9 FM, Selasie Vondee, Chief Technology Officer at Smart Innovations Ghana Ltd, said AI is already taking over individual workplace tasks and, in some cases, entire roles.

He explained that while AI initially automated routine tasks, it is now capable of performing work traditionally carried out by software developers, designers and other knowledge workers.

Selasie said graduates entering the job market should understand the fundamentals of their profession but also learn how to use AI tools to improve productivity.

He argued that employers are likely to favour candidates who can combine technical knowledge with AI rather than those who rely on conventional methods alone.

Despite AI’s rapid development, he said human expertise remains essential because workers must still verify AI-generated outputs, identify mistakes and apply professional judgement.

Selasie warned that entry-level roles could become harder to secure as AI allows experienced workers to complete more tasks in less time.

He advised students to build practical portfolios, stay updated on emerging technologies and gain hands-on experience with AI tools before entering the workforce.

He also called for tertiary institutions to modernise their technology curricula, arguing that students should be trained with current programming languages and AI technologies to remain competitive in the global job market.
