President Mahama Questions South Africa's Response To Xenophobic Attacks
President John Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has questioned the South African authorities' response to ongoing xenophobic attacks and tensions targeting foreign nationals, arguing that the measures being taken do not match the seriousness and scale of the crisis.

According to the President, the situation requires a stronger and more decisive response from the authorities to prevent further attacks and protect the lives and rights of all people living in the country.

President Mahama further suggested that those financing and fuelling the attacks are known to the authorities but questioned why stronger action has not been taken against them.

He expressed concern that the failure to decisively confront individuals and groups behind the violence could allow the situation to escalate and create further insecurity for foreign nationals, including other Africans living and working in South Africa.

His comments have renewed discussions about the need for stronger action against xenophobia and the protection of African citizens across the continent.

While South Africa has a responsibility to address the concerns of its citizens, President Mahama's remarks highlight the need for authorities to ensure that legitimate grievances do not become a justification for violence, discrimination or attacks against other Africans.

He is therefore calling for a response that matches the magnitude of the crisis and holds those responsible for fuelling xenophobic violence accountable.
