Recruiters Warn Against Overreliance On AI-Generated CVs

Recruiters are urging job seekers to use artificial intelligence as a support tool rather than a replacement for their own skills, warning that poorly reviewed AI-generated CVs can damage employment prospects.

Speaking on the Culture Daily morning show on 3Music TV and Pluzz 89.9 FM, Jobberman’s community marketer, Benedicta Oklu, said using AI to improve a CV is acceptable, but applicants should carefully review the final document before submitting it.

She said recruiters have encountered applications containing AI placeholders and formatting errors because candidates copied AI-generated content without checking it.

Jobberman’s Product Analyst, Clifford Sarpong, said the rise of AI-generated applications has prompted recruiters to introduce additional checks, including competency assessments and interviews, to ensure candidates genuinely possess the skills listed on their CVs.

He noted that employers are increasingly paying attention to soft skills such as communication, professionalism and attention to detail, as these qualities cannot easily be demonstrated through AI-generated documents.

The panel also discussed AI detection tools, which are commonly used in academic settings to identify machine-generated content.

However, Selasie Vondee, Chief Technology Officer at Smart Innovations Ghana Ltd, said AI detection is becoming more difficult as newer technologies can rewrite text to appear more human.

The speakers agreed that AI should be viewed as a productivity tool rather than a substitute for professional competence, arguing that candidates who understand both their field of work and the responsible use of AI will be better positioned in the evolving job market.
