Success Requires Balance, Not Burnout - Lawyer And Athlete Juny Francois

Lawyer, entrepreneur and long-distance runner Juny Francois says professional success should not come at the expense of personal well-being, urging women to embrace rest while continuing to pursue their ambitions.

Speaking on Woman on 3Music TV, Juny said many women struggle to balance demanding careers with personal responsibilities, making intentional self-care essential.

She said people can pursue multiple careers and interests, but not all at the same time.

“You can have it all, but not necessarily all at the same time,” she said.

Juny, who practises law, develops real estate projects, coaches athletes and manages sports talent, said she has deliberately reduced her legal workload over the past two years to focus on property development and sports management.

She credited that flexibility to having a reliable support team, including fellow lawyers, a paralegal and an assistant.

The former sprinter, who has completed all eight of the world’s major marathons after finishing the Cape Town Marathon, said listening to the body is as important as maintaining discipline.

She said she sets aside Sundays as “Self-Care Sundays” and also takes at least one “No Day” every month, when she avoids work commitments entirely.

Francois said taking time to recover improves performance rather than slowing progress.

“We have to listen to our bodies so that we don’t get burnt out,” she said.

She also encouraged young women to seek balance without expecting success to come without effort.
