Ghana Police Investigates Viral Video of American Allegedly Kidnapped by Officers

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into a viral video in which an American citizen, Arianna Naomi Mackey, claims she was kidnapped and robbed by individuals allegedly posing as police officers.

According to the preliminary findings, the video was recorded at a hotel in Accra where Ms. Mackey and two companions were staying. The investigation confirmed that they checked out of the hotel on December 5, 2025, and that Ms. Mackey subsequently left Ghana the same day via Kotoka International Airport.

Police have reached out to Ms. Mackey to assist with the investigation. She informed authorities that she was out of the country and could not provide the names of the alleged officers or the number plate of the vehicle involved. When asked for the contact details of a friend who was reportedly with her at the time of the incident, she indicated that the friend does not wish to be involved.




Ms. Mackey has since deleted the video from her social media page, and attempts by investigators to reach her via WhatsApp calls and messages were unsuccessful, as she blocked communication with the CID team. Efforts are ongoing to secure her cooperation through appropriate diplomatic channels.

Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the CID, emphasized that the Ghana Police Service takes allegations of this nature very seriously and is committed to uncovering the facts surrounding the case.
