Lasandra Cavalli Simmons Opens Up On Bringing Luxury Hair Extensions To Ghana

Luxury beauty entrepreneur Lasandra Cavalli Simmons, CEO of Beyond Glam, has opened up about the realities of running a high-end salon business in Ghana while balancing operations in London. Speaking on STYLE with Aimee Cherry, the beauty expert shared insights into the challenges, cultural differences and the growing demand for premium hair extension services in Ghana.

Known for introducing luxury hair extension techniques such as K-Tips and micro links to Ghana, Lasandra explained that transitioning from the structured business culture in London to Ghana was one of her biggest hurdles.

“In London, everyone follows systems because they understand contracts and professionalism. In Ghana, I had to adapt completely because people operate differently here,” she said.

According to her, staff management and customer relations in Ghana require a more hands-on approach. She noted that unlike in London, where employees communicate delays or absences professionally, things often work differently locally.

Despite the challenges, Lasandra emphasised that understanding the Ghanaian work environment helped her build a stronger business structure. She credited systems, hierarchy and trusted employees for helping Beyond Glam operate successfully across both countries.

“We run Beyond Glam like a proper business. There’s structure, systems, managers and protocols in place,” she explained.

Lasandra also highlighted the major cultural difference she noticed between salon customers in London and Ghana. She described the London salon experience as warm, relaxed and community-driven, regardless of social status.

“In London, even billionaires come in and blend with everyone. Here, some people come with an attitude because they want special treatment,” she revealed.

Beyond Glam has become known for creating a luxury salon experience centred on customer comfort, consultation and personalisation. The brand even refers to its clients as “Glamazonians,” a term Lasandra says reflects the welcoming and empowering atmosphere the salon aims to create.

On the technical side, Lasandra broke down the growing trend of luxury hair extension services including iTips, micro links, K-Tips, nano rings and texture release treatments. She explained that many Ghanaians are only now discovering these techniques, despite their popularity abroad.

“What made me bring micro links and K-Tips to Ghana was realising that Ghanaian women have beautiful hair and the weather here works perfectly for these styles,” she said.

She also cautioned customers against seeking cheaper alternatives from untrained stylists, recounting a case where a client lost a significant amount of hair after another salon reportedly used industrial silicone glue instead of proper keratin bonding products.

“That’s why it’s important to go to specialists who are trained and certified,” she stressed.

Lasandra explained that consultations are a crucial part of the process at Beyond Glam. Clients are first assessed based on their hair texture, desired style and lifestyle before any installation begins.

Prices for the luxury extension services start from around GH¢5,000 depending on the length, texture and installation process. While some may view the pricing as expensive, Lasandra believes the service caters to a specific clientele looking for premium quality and convenience.

“It’s not for everyone, it’s for someone,” she said.

Beyond Glam also offers nails, pedicures, wigs, sew-ins and other beauty services, all designed to create a complete luxury beauty experience.

As the beauty industry in Ghana continues to evolve, Lasandra says her goal is not only to offer premium services but also to elevate salon culture and customer experience in the country.
