In an era where numbers often measure musical success, Charlotte Bwana is bringing the conversation back to what truly matters: the artiste.
Speaking on the evolving digital music space, the Vice President of Audiomack broke down how the platform continues to shape the journey of emerging talents across Africa and beyond.
According to Bwana, nearly every rising act has passed through Audiomack at some stage.
“Everybody with an aspiring dream to be an artiste and global superstar has started their journey on Audiomack.”
The platform has become a launchpad especially for independent artistes looking to build organic audiences.
One of Audiomack’s most sought-after co-signs is its Up Now feature but it’s not automatic.
“The Up Now Artiste feature is at our discretion… the artiste is buzzing and yet to go global.”
It’s a sweet spot for artistes who are building momentum but haven’t fully crossed over.
At a time when AI is reshaping industries, Audiomack is intentionally holding its ground.
“Audiomack stands against A.I to the extent that our playlists are human-curated.”
This approach prioritises culture, taste and real human connection over purely algorithmic decisions.
Despite industry shifts, Bwana insists the platform’s mission is clear. “Audiomack is an artiste-first platform and we’re never going to change.”
This philosophy has helped the platform maintain trust among creators navigating an often unpredictable digital landscape.
Bwana challenged a common misconception about African audiences. “Africans are listening to African music, the problem is accessibility.”
The issue isn’t demand, it’s distribution, reach and ease of access across different regions.
On the controversial topic of streaming numbers, she drew a clear line. “The difference between boosting and stream farming is in who is listening.”
In other words, real growth comes from genuine listeners not inflated metrics.
And for aspiring stars chasing fame, Bwana offered a reality check. “A lot of people glamourise the superstar lifestyle but do not want to put in the work.”
Success, she emphasises, still comes down to consistency, effort and authenticity.
From discovery to distribution, Audiomack continues to position itself as a key player in Africa’s music evolution not just as a platform, but as a partner in artiste growth.
