President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, has officially confirmed that Ghana will host the 2027 edition of the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. The announcement was made on April 26th, 2026 via his official Facebook page, marking a major milestone for Ghanaian football.
The tournament, organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), brings together the continent’s top youth talents and serves as a qualification pathway to the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
This will be Ghana’s first time hosting the competition in nearly three decades, with the last edition held in the country in 1999, when it was known as the African Youth Championship. Over the years, Ghana’s U-20 team, the Black Satellites, has built a strong legacy, winning multiple continental titles, including their most recent triumph in 2021.
Ghana’s reputation in youth football is further strengthened by its historic victory at the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2009, where the Black Satellites became the first African team to win the tournament, cementing the nation’s status as a powerhouse in talent development.
Hosting the 2027 U-20 AFCON is expected to boost football development, infrastructure and Ghana’s global sporting image. The tournament will not only provide a platform for emerging stars across Africa but also offer Ghana the opportunity to showcase its organisational capacity on a continental stage.
