The Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), announces the ongoing success of its groundbreaking Accra By Night tour, a dynamic initiative designed to showcase the electrifying cultural and creative heartbeat of Accra after sunset. Launched on April 30, 2025, this immersive nighttime experience is transforming the way locals and visitors explore Ghana’s capital, positioning Accra as a must-visit 24-hour tourism destination.

The Accra By Night tour invites adventurers to hop aboard a vibrant GTA-branded double-decker bus for a curated journey through Accra’s iconic landmarks and bustling nightlife hubs. Departing from the Accra Tourist Information Centre at 8 p.m. on the last Friday of each month, the tour winds through Independence Avenue, the historic James Town, the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Mausoleum, and the lively Osu district, ending with a celebratory stop at a hotspot like The Alley Bar for live music and dancing. Highlights include the illuminated Jamestown Lighthouse, a symbol of Ghana’s maritime heritage, and the Osu Night Market, where the aroma of sizzling street food and the rhythm of highlife music create an unforgettable atmosphere. The initiative aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of a 24-hour economy, creating jobs, boosting local businesses, and showcasing Ghana’s rich cultural heritage in a safe and exciting way. With plans to expand by adding five more double-decker buses, GTDC aims to make this a cornerstone of Ghana’s tourism strategy, projecting an estimated ¢190,000 in revenue by year’s end. The tour is a game-changer, positioning Accra as a city that thrives day and night, alive with music, food, art, and the warmth of its people. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences using the hashtag #AccraByNight to amplify Ghana’s nightlife on a global stage. Safety is a top priority, with GTDC partnering with the Ghana Police and the 24-hour Economy Secretariat to ensure secure routes. From the historic significance of the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum to the vibrant energy of Oxford Street, the tour blends education, culture, and entertainment, offering something for everyone—whether it’s savoring Ghanaian street food, dancing to Afrobeat, or soaking in the city’s twinkling skyline. Vendors at Osu Night Market report increased tourist visits, showcasing Ghana’s vibrant nightlife to the world. With international arrivals surpassing pre-pandemic levels, Accra By Night taps into the global trend of noctourism, offering an authentic and immersive experience that highlights Ghana’s unique blend of history and modernity.
