Veteran Ghanaian actor Samuel Seth Kwabena Kyere Karikari, popularly known as Koo Fori, was granted bail of GH¢320,000 by the Dansoman Circuit Court on May 12, 2025, following his arrest for allegedly defrauding a US-based Ghanaian of $50,000. The Efiewura TV series star pleaded not guilty to charges of defrauding under false pretenses, with the court requiring three sureties, all to be justified, and additional conditions including weekly police reporting and surrendering his Ghana Card. The case, adjourned to June 25, 2025, for a Case Management Conference, has drawn significant attention, with videos of Koo Fori in handcuffs circulating online.

According to reports, the complainant, a California-based Ghanaian, transferred $50,000 to Koo Fori, believing it was for a legitimate investment opportunity, possibly related to a land purchase. However, the actor allegedly failed to fulfill the agreement, defaulted on repayments, and went into hiding, prompting a formal complaint.

His non-appearance at a court summons on April 17, 2025, led to a bench warrant, culminating in his arrest by the Accra Central Police Command. The resurfacing of an old video showing Koo Fori flaunting a luxury watch and chain, fueled public discourse, with some users speculating about the case’s outcome while others expressed shock at the allegations.

Koo Fori, also the general manager of Bryt TV, made his first public appearance post-bail at a Peekak Sardine pre-lunch party, appearing in high spirits but declining to discuss the case, per a video shared by Nana Tornado. The court rescinded the earlier bench warrant, granting him temporary freedom as investigations continue.

Social media reactions remain mixed, with some fans defending the actor’s character, citing his comedic legacy, while others debate the seriousness of the fraud allegations. The case underscores growing concerns about financial scams in Ghana, as highlighted by a 2024 Bank of Ghana report noting a 33% rise in staff-involved fraud.
