Ghana's Caleb Yirenkyi Set For Record Move To Coventry City

Coventry City have agreed a deal worth around £26 million to sign Ghana international midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland.

The 20-year-old is set to become the Premier League club’s most expensive signing as they continue an ambitious summer recruitment drive.

Reports indicate the fee comprises a guaranteed sum of approximately €27 million (£23-26m) plus up to €3 million in add-ons, making it both a club record for Coventry and the highest transfer fee ever agreed by a Danish Superliga club.

Yirenkyi impressed during Ghana’s World Cup campaign, starting three matches. He scored a late winner against Panama and played a key role in holding England to a 0-0 draw.

The move is subject to a medical and the completion of personal terms.

Sources say the midfielder chose Coventry after being assured of a significant role and regular playing time under manager Frank Lampard. He is expected to become the club’s fifth permanent signing of the summer window.

Yirenkyi will not feature for Nordsjaelland in their upcoming UEFA Conference League qualifying match as the transfer progresses.
