Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has attributed the abrupt cancellation of his ShattaFest UK event to divine intervention, saying God only wanted him to appear in the United Kingdom so that “people could change.”

The sold-out festival, also known as Ghana Party in the Park, was scheduled for August 1, 2026, at Copthall Playing Fields in north London.

It was halted by UK police after a stampede and severe overcrowding outside the venue raised serious safety concerns.

Reports indicated several people were injured, with some claims of possible fatalities still awaiting official confirmation from authorities.

Shatta Wale’s management released a statement expressing deep sorrow and confirming the decision to cancel the concert, emphasizing that the safety and well-being of fans took priority.

“Nothing is more important than the safety and well-being of every single person who came to celebrate music, unity, and love,” the statement said.

Organisers and emergency services managed the chaotic situation at the site.

In a subsequent TikTok live session, the artiste known as the SM President addressed the incident directly.

“God didn’t want me to perform in the UK… He only wanted me to show up so people could change,” he said.

“I’m not sitting here as a superstar, I’m sitting here as a servant of God," he added. 

The cancellation left many fans who had travelled to the venue disappointed.

ShattaFest UK had been heavily promoted in the weeks leading up to the date, with earlier reports describing the event as sold out.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the overcrowding and stampede are ongoing.
