ECOWAS Donates $250,000 To Support Ghana Flood Victims

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has pledged a donation of US$250,000, equivalent to about GH¢3 million, to support victims of the recent floods that affected several parts of Ghana.

Announcing the donation, the Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said the ministry had been formally notified by ECOWAS of the contribution, describing the gesture as a demonstration of regional solidarity.

The minister said the entire amount would be transferred to the appropriate authorities immediately after the funds are received by the ministry.

The Government of Ghana expressed appreciation to ECOWAS for what it described as its solidarity and compassion towards people affected by the disaster.

The latest support adds to ongoing relief efforts by government agencies, development partners and humanitarian organisations following the June 29 floods, which displaced thousands of people, claimed lives and caused extensive damage to homes, businesses and public infrastructure across several regions.
