Ghanaian Afropop star Wiyaala is once again elevating northern Ghanaian cultural heritage, by detailing the story behind one of her latest Fugu-inspired outfits in a video posted online.

Wiyaala is shown in the video highlighting the traditional handwoven smock known as Fugu, a garment closely associated with communities in northern Ghana.

The musician gave her fans a behind-the-scenes look at the creation and significance of the ensemble, featuring her in various culturally inspired looks during a photoshoot.

The release comes months after Wiyaala was crowned Global Fugu Queen and Tourism Ambassador in May 2026 during a ceremony in Funsi in the Upper West Region.

Officials at the time praised her long-standing commitment to wearing and promoting Fugu, noting that she had done so well before the garment gained wider social media attention.

Wiyaala, whose stage name means “the doer” in the Sissala language, is known for blending contemporary Afropop with traditional influences and for designing many of her own stage costumes.

These often draw on indigenous African elements, including warrior attire, royal dress, and northern Ghanaian textiles.

She has consistently used her platform to celebrate cultural identity while addressing social issues.

Wiyaala has over the years spoken her connection to her homeland the the desire to put Ghana on the global spotlight through music and traditional fashion.
