Man City’s Antoine Semenyo Opens Up On Christian Faith And Shared Prayer With Teammates

Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo has spoken candidly about the central role his Christian faith plays in his life and career, revealing how he and some teammates regularly pray together.

The Ghana international, who joined City from Bournemouth in a £64 million transfer in January 2026, discussed his beliefs in a recent interview shared widely online.

Semenyo, 26, described a childhood shaped by his parents’ commitment to church.

“Mum and Dad didn’t let me go to football on Sundays without going to church first,” he said.

He explained that he has always sought to deepen his relationship with God and recently took the opportunity to be baptised.

“I know that I am obviously walking with God at the moment, and I want to maximise my faith as much as I can,” Semenyo said.

“So when I got that opportunity, I made sure I took it… and I’m in the walk of faith now and it’s been amazing.”

At Manchester City, the winger said faith has become a shared experience with certain teammates.

“We always pray a lot. We pray before the games. We pray in the hotel the night before, together. It just gives us the maximum strength… and we’ve got belief from God," he added.

Semenyo, who carries faith-based tattoos and has previously spoken about praying before matches, portrayed the group prayers as a source of unity and mental strength in the high-pressure environment of Premier League football.

The comments come as Semenyo continues to settle into life at the Etihad Stadium following his big-money move, with the Ghana international already contributing goals and performances for Pep Guardiola’s side.
