Ghana’s Parliament Approves Repeal of E-Levy in 2025 Budget

Ghana’s Parliament has approved the repeal of the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) through the passage of the Electronic Transfer Levy Repeal Bill 2025.  This decision aligns with the government’s commitment to alleviate financial burdens on citizens and stimulate economic activity.

The E-Levy, introduced in 2022, imposed a 1% tax on electronic transactions, including mobile money transfers. Its removal is expected to provide relief to individuals and businesses that had opposed the tax since its inception.

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson highlighted that the repeal fulfills a campaign promise and reflects the administration’s dedication to honoring its social contract with Ghanaians.

The repeal bill now awaits presidential assent to become law. Once enacted, the removal of the E-Levy is anticipated to enhance digital financial transactions and support economic growth.
