Kanye West, known as Ye, has released a new track titled Lonely Roads Still Go to Sunshine, featuring his 11-year-old daughter, North West, alongside Sean “Diddy” Combs and his son, King Combs. The song begins with a recorded conversation between Ye and Diddy, who is currently incarcerated on charges including sex trafficking and racketeering. In the exchange, Diddy expresses gratitude for Ye’s support of his children during his imprisonment. North contributes a verse, rapping, “When you see me shining, then you see the light.”
Prior to the song’s release, Kim Kardashian, Ye’s ex-wife and North’s mother, attempted to prevent North’s involvement by leveraging trademarks on their children’s names. In a reported text exchange, Kim emphasized her intent to protect North, stating she had sent paperwork to ensure North wouldn’t participate in the song. She reminded Ye that they had agreed to trademark their children’s names at birth, transferring control to them when they turn 18. Ye responded defiantly, threatening public conflict if the issue wasn’t resolved.
The collaboration has sparked public debate. Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel criticized Ye’s decision to feature North alongside Diddy, who is currently incarcerated on charges including sex trafficking and racketeering. Kimmel sarcastically referred to Diddy as “Uncle Baby Oil” and expressed concern over Ye’s choices, highlighting the controversial nature of the collaboration.
Additionally, Diddy was reportedly unaware that his phone conversation with Ye was being recorded and used in the song. Sources indicate that Diddy feels he has become “collateral damage” in the ongoing dispute between Ye and Kim.
The situation underscores the complexities of co-parenting in the public eye, especially when involving children in high-profile projects amidst parental disagreements.
