Marvel’s Blade Reboot Eyes 2026 Filming Start, Release Likely Pushed to 2027 or Later

After years of delays and uncertainty, Blade, Marvel Studios’ long-awaited vampire thriller starring Mahershala Ali, may finally be moving forward. According to reports from multiple outlets citing entertainment insider Daniel Richtman (DanielRPK), the film is now expected to begin principal photography in 2026.

However, Marvel has not yet officially confirmed the timeline, and the project currently lacks a director and does not have a firm release date. The Blade reboot has endured several setbacks, including multiple script rewrites and director changes, which have pushed its timeline well beyond initial projections.

Originally slated for a November 2025 release, Blade was quietly removed from Marvel’s Phase Six calendar in October 2024. If filming does proceed in 2026 as reported, fans may not see the Daywalker return to the big screen until late 2027 or 2028, aligning with the studio’s increasingly packed release slate in those years.

Despite the uncertainty, Marvel President Kevin Feige has continued to reaffirm that Blade remains an active priority for the studio. Feige emphasized a commitment to “creativity and quality,” making it clear that Marvel is unwilling to rush production for the sake of meeting a release window.

Star Mahershala Ali, who has been attached to the project since its surprise announcement at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, has also expressed eagerness to begin.

“Call Marvel, let them know I’m ready,” Ali said in a recent interview.

However, when asked indirectly about the film’s progress in a separate interview with Vogue, Ali offered a more cryptic response:

“Leave me out of it.”

The comment has only fueled speculation about the project’s direction and whether the delays have affected Ali’s long-term involvement.
