Morocco Unveils Plans for World’s Largest Football Stadium Ahead of 2030 World Cup

Morocco has announced plans to construct the Grand Stade Hassan II, set to become the world’s largest football stadium with a capacity of 115,000 spectators. Located in El Mansouria, approximately 38 kilometers north of Casablanca, the stadium is a central component of Morocco’s preparations to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.



Designed collaboratively by global architecture firm Populous and Paris-based Oualalou + Choi, the stadium draws inspiration from traditional Moroccan “moussem” gatherings. Its distinctive aluminum lattice roof, resembling a vast tent, integrates seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. The design incorporates 32 monumental stairways leading to elevated gardens, creating an oasis-like environment within the stadium complex.



The stadium’s interior features three steep tiers at each end, accommodating nearly 30,000 general admission fans per side. Along the sidelines, five levels of hospitality suites will host 12,000 VIP guests, including a royal box.

With an estimated construction cost of €500 million, publicly financed and approved in October 2023, groundwork for the project has commenced. Completion is anticipated by 2028, positioning the stadium as a prime candidate to host the 2030 World Cup final.



Beyond the World Cup, the Grand Stade Hassan II is expected to serve as the home ground for Morocco’s national team and prominent clubs Raja CA and Wydad AC, solidifying its role as a lasting symbol of Morocco’s footballing ambitions.
