At the 3Media Women’s Brunch, Osafohene Dr Afua Asabea Asare, brought energy, authenticity and wisdom to the podium as she reflected on identity, reinvention and the power of continuous growth.
Introduced in line with the event’s theme, Give to Gain, Dr Afua Asabea began by emphasising the importance of understanding who you are not just what you do.
“I know who I am,” she declared confidently, describing herself as a woman who proudly occupies a leadership role in her hometown, symbolised by her reference to sitting “on a title stool” a position of influence and cultural significance. For her, identity is deeply rooted in purpose, pride and self-awareness.
With a mix of humour and boldness, she challenged traditional expectations and labels, reinforcing the idea that women can be and achieve anything they set their minds to.
Reflecting on her professional journey, Dr Afua Asabea shared her extensive experience in public service, having worked with institutions such as the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Ghana Telecom and the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, where she eventually retired from formal service.
But for her, retirement is far from the end.
“My retirement will be the day I’m lowered into the grave,” she said, drawing laughter and admiration from the audience.
Today, her work has evolved into something even more fulfilling; mentorship, creativity and nurturing the next generation. She described her home as a vibrant, open space where young people come to learn and grow. From art and textile design to sewing, poultry and crafts like papier-mâché, Dr Afua Asabea has created an environment where skills are shared freely and creativity thrives.
“I always want to see something happening,” she said, describing herself as someone who constantly seeks activity, innovation and purpose.
An artist at heart, she proudly wore her own designs, embodying the very creativity she encourages in others. Her passion for nurturing, she noted, is a natural extension of womanhood.
“Women are nurturers and forever we will remain nurturers,” she said.
In a candid and relatable moment, Dr Afua Asabea also touched on the realities of aging speaking humorously about memory lapses, sleepless nights and the changes that come with menopause. Yet, even in these moments, her message remained clear: growth does not stop.
“You need to reinvent yourself,” she emphasised.
For her, reinvention is not just a concept, it is a lifestyle. Whether through learning new skills, mentoring young people, or embracing creativity, she continues to evolve while staying true to herself.
Her vibrant personality, honesty and passion left a lasting impression, reminding everyone in the room that purpose does not expire with age and that life, in all its phases, is meant to be lived fully.
In her own words, it may be “all kinds of craziness,” but it is a life she embraces wholeheartedly and one that continues to inspire.
