You Don’t Need Huge Capital To Start - FY Glam Studio CEO Faruza Yakubu Tells Aspiring Makeup Artists

Chief Executive Officer of FY Glam Studio, Faruza Yakubu, says aspiring makeup artists do not need huge capital to start a career in beauty.

Speaking on Style on 3Music TV, the self-taught artist revealed she began her journey with just four products bought from Madina Market, long before she understood the difference between premium and budget brands.

“I bought about two fair shades and two dark shades, and I started,” she said.

According to her, makeup artistry allows practitioners to customise products to suit different skin tones, making it unnecessary for beginners to own every shade available.

The makeup artist said many people are discouraged from entering the industry because they overestimate the financial investment required.

Instead, she believes consistency, practice, and gradual investment are more important than having an extensive makeup kit from the outset.

Faruza, who has worked in the industry for about seven years, taught herself makeup through online tutorials before later enrolling in online courses to improve her skills.

She said aspiring artists should focus on learning the craft and building experience rather than waiting until they can afford every product on the market.

“You don’t have to wait until everything is perfect before you start,” she said.

As her client base expanded, Faruza said she gradually invested in better products, registered FY Glam Studio as a business, and eventually opened a dedicated studio after outgrowing the space where she trained students.

She also credited social media with helping her showcase her work from the early stages of her career.

Looking back, Faruza said building a successful beauty business was a gradual process rather than a one-time investment, adding that aspiring entrepreneurs should concentrate on improving their skills while growing their businesses step by step.
