Big Push Road Projects Targeted For Completion By End Of 2027 – Deputy Roads Minister
Alhassan Suhuyini

The government has set a firm 24-month timeline for road projects under its Big Push programme, with most expected to be completed and handed over by the end of 2027, Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways Alhassan Suhuyini has announced.

Speaking on Channel One TV, Suhuyini said contractors have been given a compressed schedule that is significantly shorter than the typical 36 months required for similar works.

“Some of the Big Push projects, the engineers will tell you, under normal circumstances, they expect contractors to take about 36 months to finish the projects, but we have given them 24 months,” he stated.

He added that authorities are intensifying on-site monitoring and applying pressure on contractors to address delays and keep projects on track.

“It is the reason why we are sustaining the pressure and the monitoring on the field to make sure that corrective measures can be implemented to bring those that are off schedule to also be on schedule,” Suhuyini said.

Specific progress is anticipated later this year. Substantial portions of the Adenta section are expected to be completed by December 2026, which should ease traffic for motorists. Additional sections of the Tema-Aflao corridor are also projected to open to traffic before the end of 2026, though the full corridor will not be finished by year-end.

The Deputy Minister further indicated that President John Dramani Mahama is expected to begin commissioning some completed projects by the middle of 2027.

The Big Push initiative aims to accelerate the delivery of critical road infrastructure across the country through tighter timelines and closer oversight of contractors.
