A video circulating widely on social media claims that the convicted shooter in the 2020 murder of rapper Pop Smoke is bragging about beating multiple murder cases while free.
The short clip, shared by hip-hop news account Daily Loud on Tuesday, features the line “23 years old, 4 murders, and I’m still out” overlaid on images of Pop Smoke and individuals connected to the case.
The post has drawn significant attention and criticism, with many users expressing frustration over what they see as leniency in the juvenile justice system and a lack of accountability.
However, context from the case and online responses indicates the speaking individual in the video is not Deijae Devon Jester, the person who confessed to fatally shooting Pop Smoke. Jester, who was 15 at the time of the February 19, 2020, home-invasion robbery in the Hollywood Hills, admitted in juvenile court in 2023 to first-degree murder and personally firing the shots that killed the 20-year-old Brooklyn drill star (born Bashar Barakah Jackson).16
Because of his age at the time of the crime, Jester was processed through California’s juvenile system. He was expected to remain in custody until age 25. Last week, a Los Angeles County judge sentenced the now-21-year-old to an additional four years after he pleaded no contest to charges related to smuggling fentanyl into Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall. Authorities said his mother attempted to pass him latex balloons containing 25 fentanyl pills during a December 2025 visit. The new sentence moves him into adult custody.17
Jester remains incarcerated and is not free, contradicting the “I’m still out” claim in the circulating video. Online users have noted that the clip appears to be a montage pairing unrelated footage with images from the Pop Smoke case.
Pop Smoke was killed during a robbery at a rented Hollywood Hills home. Intruders entered through a second-story balcony; Jester later described pistol-whipping the rapper and shooting him three times in the back after an altercation. The group stole jewelry, including a diamond-encrusted watch later sold for about $2,000.
