Ghanaian dancehall artiste Dosted Gennah has credited Shatta Wale with playing a major role in his career after giving him an opportunity to perform at a show and subsequently supporting his music.
Dosted Gennah said he had followed Shatta Wale for years, regularly engaging with his posts and sending him messages before the two eventually met.
He said the breakthrough came when he was scheduled to perform at a show in Akropong where Shatta Wale was also billed to perform.
According to Dosted Gennah, one of Shatta Wale’s managers contacted him before the event and told him that the dancehall star had noticed his posts and wanted to see him perform live.
The artiste said organisers stopped the other performers scheduled ahead of him so he could perform before Shatta Wale took the stage.
“I performed only two songs because Wale was even ready to come on stage,” he said.
Dosted Gennah said he thought the encounter had ended after his performance but was later called back after Shatta Wale finished his set.
He said Shatta Wale then told him he was working on an Accra Invasion project and wanted him to be part of it.
The opportunity eventually led to Dosted Gennah appearing on the Accra Invasion Project, a 2024 collaboration involving Shatta Wale and several Ghanaian artistes. The track is listed on Spotify with Dosted Gennah among the featured performers.
Dosted Gennah described the encounter as a major turning point in his career.
“At that moment, seriously, like that whole month, I felt like, Charlie, God, hey, I’m flying without wings,” he said.
He also revealed that he and Shatta Wale have worked on another song which he expects to release soon.
Dosted Gennah’s links with established artistes have continued to grow. He has worked with Medikal, J.Derobie, Jupitar, Larruso and others, while his music has also connected him with Jamaican dancehall artistes including Popcaan and Masicka.
His latest six-track EP, Out of The Broken City, includes collaborations with Medikal, J.Derobie, Jupitar, Shane O and Zebee.
