Dancehall artiste Dosted Gennah says his music is largely shaped by his personal experiences as he seeks to use the genre to tell stories about his life.
The artiste said growing up listening to Jamaican dancehall influenced his decision to make the genre a central part of his music.
“I’ve been through a lot in life. And I feel like dancehall is the way for me to express myself,” he said.
Speaking on UNPACKIN’ on Tuesday August 18, Dosted Gennah said he combines dancehall with elements of other Ghanaian sounds to make his experiences relatable to his audience.
He believes dancehall gives him the freedom to address personal experiences through music.
“Most of my songs, if you listen to them, it’s like telling a story. All my songs is based on something that happened,” he said.
The artiste has also developed links with the Jamaican dancehall scene, saying he has travelled to Jamaica several times and has met artistes including Popcaan.
He said he was also in the United Kingdom with music executive Prince Tego, where he had an opportunity to meet Popcaan.
Dosted Gennah’s international connections have featured in his recent work. His 2026 EP, Out of The Broken City, includes six tracks and collaborations with Jamaican artiste Shane O, as well as Ghanaian artistes including Medikal, J.Derobie, Jupitar and Zebee.
The project was released in April 2026 and includes Agyapa, Family, Am Coming, Snapping Su, Hot Pressure and Best Life.
Snapping Su, featuring Medikal, is one of the project’s collaborations and was released as part of the EP on 1 April 2026.
Dosted Gennah has previously collaborated with Medikal on Sika Me P3, released in 2023, while his catalogue also includes collaborations with artistes such as Larruso and appearances on Shatta Wale’s Accra Invasion Project.
The artiste says he now wants to build on these collaborations and take his music to a wider audience.
His latest comments come as he continues to promote his music and develop his identity as an artiste who blends Ghanaian influences with dancehall and reggae.
