The Ghana Football Association has unanimously recommended that Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz remain in charge of the Black Stars following the team’s performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum confirmed that the association’s Executive Council reviewed the 73-year-old coach’s work and agreed he should continue beyond his initial short-term contract. Queiroz was appointed on a four-month deal to replace Otto Addo shortly before the tournament.
“The council, which is the highest decision-making body, after assessing the performance of Coach Carlos Queiroz, has agreed that the coach is made to stay,” Asante Twum said.
The recommendation does not automatically extend Queiroz’s tenure. The final decision rests with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, which is expected to fund the coach’s salary. Further negotiations between the GFA, the ministry and Queiroz will be required to settle contract terms and any outstanding financial matters.
Asante Twum noted that details of the proposed offer and any counter-proposal from the coach remain under discussion. While the GFA has expressed clear support for retaining Queiroz, no long-term agreement has yet been finalised.
