Nana Ama Bonsu I Unveiled As New Asantehemaa

A new chapter in the Asante Kingdom's traditional leadership has begun with the official unveiling of Nana Ama Bonsu I as the new Asantehemaa.

She takes over from Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, who was Asantehemaa until her demise in 2025.

At an unveiling ceremony in compliance with Asante custom and traditions on Monday, July 6, Nana Ama Bonsu I was formerly introduced as the Queenmother of the Asante Kingdom. 

The office of the Asantehemaa has important advisory, cultural, and traditional duties in Asante monarchy. 

Asante queenmothers are essential to maintaining the kingdom's traditions and customs, fostering social harmony, and counselling the Asantehene on issues pertaining to succession, governance, and communal well-being.

Her appointment to this traditional leadership role in the Asante Kingdom is expected to uphold the legacy of the Asantehemaa office and strengthen the kingdom's governance institutions.

Traditional leaders, dignitaries, and Asante Kingdom members who attended the ceremony reaffirmed their dedication to the kingdom's institutions, customs, and traditions.
