Award-winning gospel singer Perez Musik has decided against challenging the Ghana Music Awards board's nominations in specific categories. Unlike some artistes who advocate for particular nominations and seek reviews, Perez emphasized his disinterest in such pursuits.
Speaking on TV3’s New Day with Cookie Tee, Perez emphasized that as a gospel musician, his primary focus is on impacting and transforming lives through his music rather than pursuing accolades. He highlighted that it is ultimately up to the board to determine nominations based on an artiste's skill.
"I submitted my work, and whether they choose to nominate me or not, it's their decision. I have no desire to contest my nominations," Perez explained. "My main goal is not to win awards. As a gospel artiste, my calling is to touch souls, which is my priority. Awards are secondary; they can open doors, but transformation is my primary goal."
Perez received nominations in three categories for this year’s Ghana Music Awards, including Best Male Vocal Performance, Songwriter of the Year, and Gospel Artiste of the Year. Despite not securing nominations in all desired categories, he remains unfazed, stating, "While there are categories one might feel deserving of, I trust the board's judgment."
Perez's remarks were prompted by the recent dispute between Amerado and the TGMA board over the nomination of the original version of the song KWEKU ANANSE. Amerado had petitioned for the original version to be considered for the Most Popular Song of the Year category, eventually leading to the song's inclusion in the category following discussions.
