The 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards nominations have come with many surprises including Rocky Dawuni getting nominated for the first time.

The three-time Grammy nominee got shortlisted for two categories - Best Reggae-Dancehall Artiste and Best Reggae-Dancehall Song.

Rocky Dawuni is a songwriter and record producer. In 1996, he released THE MOVEMENT, his debut album, breaking into the African reggae landscape. Two hit singles SUGAR and WHAT GOES AROUND that received a lot of airplay in Ghana were born from the artiste's introspective journey into social and spiritual awareness, which received rave reviews in the Ghanaian press.

Rocky was referred to as Ghana's Bob Marley in a full-page article in New Nation, one of England's most important weeklies. THE MOVEMENT was well-received and praised by critics in the United States. The Afro Roots musician has more than six albums to his credit.
