Accra Mayor, Michael Kpakpo Allotey has warned that all peddling, trading and other illegal activities under the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange must stop immediately and violators will be prosecuted.
The Mayor on Tuesday led a team from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on a working visit to the Okaikoi South Sub-Metropolitan District to inspect sanitation conditions, building permits and adherence to Assembly by-laws.
As part of the exercise, AMA officials cleared food vendors, beggars and those sleeping under the Korle Klottey portion of the interchange.

The Mayor told the team that the Assembly will not allow any illegal use of the space, including sleeping, food vending and commercial activity.
He described the exercise as part of a larger attempt to restore order and improve sanitation around the capital and warned that anyone discovered peddling, trading, or indulging in unlawful activities under the interchange will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The Mayor also threatened that failure to clear clogged gutters within a day, would attract fines for owners of drinking spots, VVIP Station operators and cattle owners operating along Otublohum Road.

He further called on the local people, traders, transport companies and business owners to support the various initiatives being undertaken to keep Accra clean, safe and orderly, while reaffirming the AMA’s commitment to enforcing its bylaws on sanitation, building permits and public order.
