Award-winning singer and producer, Akwaboah has offered rare insight into the emotional depth and technical discipline behind his music, particularly his approach to highlife.
During a candid conversation on Culture Daily, Akwaboah revealed that many of his popular love songs are shaped by real-life experiences, including heartbreak, personal growth and reflections on identity.
He explained that songwriting for him is intentional and often slow-paced, with lyrics sometimes taking weeks or months to complete to ensure emotional accuracy. “Every line must make sense,” he said, stressing that highlife demands depth, patience and musical precision.
Touching on the technical side of production, Akwaboah described highlife as one of the most complex genres to create, citing intricate progressions, live instrumentation and storytelling as core elements. Songs like HYE ME BO and MATTERS OF THE HEARTS, he noted, were particularly challenging due to their layered arrangements and shifting rhythms.
The musician also announced an upcoming live performance scheduled for February 21 at Zen Gardens, promising audiences an intimate evening rooted in musicianship and storytelling.
